The Calgary blogger community is widespread but tight-knit with some really rad people. My friend Laura at scribbles & sass asked me to take part in her Part and Parcel series. I put together a fun list of my best-loved local gems – from treats to clothing, skincare to jewelry. I included things like my Camp Brand Goods sweatshirt and the delectable bonbons from The Chocolate Lab. Head over to her site to check out my guest post on Calgary’s finest goods.
If you haven’t seen the @lifeinCalgary Instagram account before, you should start following along now! Each week, a different person or company will takeover the IG account to share their views and experiences of Calgary through photos. It’s really fun to see how others experience our beautiful city and see how similar and different we can be all at the same time. In a city of 1.4 million people, there are a lot of things to connect us, but so much more we need to find and View this Post

Calgary has some amazing views of the rivers, the mountains, the cityscape and more. Finding those sights and scenery in the city is as simple as getting as high as you possibly can. In this case, the sub-penthouse floor in Calgary’s tallest residential building, the Guardian Towers.
Way up on the 39th floor you will find amazing downtown views from all angles – from the Saddledome to the Calgary Tower all the way out to the Rocky Mountains. For a cool $2.4 million, you too can enjoy this spectacular View this Post

I love playing tourist in my own city and as a hometown Calgary girl, I like to think that I am well-versed in all the cool and fun things to do around town. Color me surprised to find out about Skyline Luge Calgary, a city attraction at Canada Olympic Park that I hadn’t heard of before! On a beautiful, sunny Saturday I headed west out to COP to take the plunge on the downhill track.
So what is Skyline Luge exactly? Don’t confuse it with ziplining or luge on an ice track. It’s described as a “unique wheeled gravity View this Post

It’s been many years in the making but the beautiful musical space that is Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre is finally in its last touches and will be opening to the public July 1,2016. I was super fortunate enough to visit the facility twice over the Junos weekend last April to get a sneak peek at what’s to come. Calgary will soon be home to a truly world-class facility that will appeal to local and international audiences alike.
The inspiration behind the building was, well, obviously the music. The design is reflective of instrument View this Post

104 restaurants. 10 days. All the beef patties you can stuff in your face. Welcome to Alberta Burger Fest 2016! The 4th annual festival will be kicking off this weekend starting May 6th running all the way through to May 15th. In the grand tradition of weeklong food battles, Calgary chefs are bringing out the big beef for their burger concoctions this week. You’ll find anything and everything topped on these hamburgers from tuna to French fries to fried onions. And let’s not forget the buns – sesame seeds, brioche-style, pretzel tops. The options are View this Post

Christmas is in the air and is waiting for you around the corner in Inglewood! Tons of my most favourite Calgary shops are located in and around 9th Avenue S.E. There are over 80 locally-owned shops in the area (holy moly!) which means tons of Christmas gifts and finds to be had for all your family and friends. The neighborhood is making it even easier to shop this holiday season with free hot chocolate, extended shop hours and free parking on Saturdays leading up to the holiday. I like to make a day of it when I stop by Inglewood: View this PostKeep Reading »

Calgary is home to a vibrant community of independent businesses. Many of the faces behind the local favourites and neighborhood hangouts tend to stay behind-the-scenes, but a new Calgary-oriented calendar is looking to bring these peeps front-and-center. The 2016 Shop Boys calendar features 12 local business owners to celebrate local independent shops throughout the community.
The calendar is the brainchild of co-founders Emily and Brett McDermott (of Our Daily Brett on 14 Street SW). “We’re really excited about Calgary and all the interesting, independent businesses that have been popping up in recent years,” says Emily. “Whenever we have a day View this Post

When I first heard about a Chinese lantern festival coming to the Calgary Zoo, I imagined a string of paper lights hanging around the buildings lit up in decorative colors. Simple and pretty right? But the Illuminasia Lantern and Garden Festival is so much more! Touted as “an experience like no other” the lanterns are actually beautiful and intricately created pieces of art highlighting many of the zoo’s animals and showcasing other cultural icons that represent the China, Japan and India View this PostKeep Reading »
