Pucker: A Cookbook for Citrus Lovers

Pucker up.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, lemon loaf cake, lemon buttercream, lemon-lavender shortbread, and lemon-rosemary lamb chops, just to name a few. That’s what local writer Gwendolyn Richards did with her new cookbook Pucker. This delicious and juicy cookbook is an ode to the citrus fruits that give us that tang and make our tastebuds pucker.

If you thought that lemons and limes were only good for putting in your water glass, then you have been missing out. The recipes in the View this Post

The Glenbow Museum gets Schmancy with Jessi Cruikshank

It’s time to get Schmancy! The annual fundraiser for the Glenbow Museum is taking place this weekend with host Jessi Cruickshank. The former MTV host sat down with The Glenbow to do a Skype chat and had some hilarious things to say about John Travolta, her childhood, and her love of the arts.

The best part is Jessi’s story about how her parents got her to go to museums and art galleries as a child. Apparently the lure of a McDonald’s Happy Meal was enough to get the young Jessi to visit a cultural View this Post

Destination: Deerfoot City could be pretty amazing

Calgary is home to some pretty top-notch shopping but also some not-so-awesome retail centres too. For years, Deerfoot Mall has been sitting pretty vacant at it’s corner off the major thoroughfare and 64th Avenue NE. Heading to the ‘hood to pick up some outlet wares has not been on my priority list (and apparently not for most Calgarians too. But I gotta give props to Showhome Furniture for getting me up to Deerfoot Mall at all).

A recent announcement from Vancouver-based Shape Properties will see an entire revitalization and expansion of the site to become Destination: Deerfoot City. And View this Post

The cutest Crave Cupcakes

I didn’t think I could love Crave Cupcakes more than I already do but then they do this: create adorable animal cupcakes in support of the Calgary Humane Society! In celebration of National Cupcake Day, these delicious critter cupcakes will be available for one day only on February 23rd. You can pre-order your cupcake six-pack to include two animals of your choosing (bunny, kitty or puppy) and four classic swirled cupcakes. 50% of sales from each six-pack will go towards helping animals at our local Humane Society.

Surprisingly Groovy Jam

Ok baby Jonas. You’ve got me on board with this jam. I like the melody, I like the smoothness, I like the sexy tone. If your second single is as good as this one, I might just call myself a fan.

Sounds like Whitney Houston Jam

One of my favourite songs of all-time is Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” It’s catchy, it’s dancy, and just plain fun. That’s probably why I gravitate so to Betty Who‘s “Somebody Loves You”. It has that same catchy chorus and title lyric that mimics “Dance” to the t. The song is the pure 80’s, pop-synth vibe that’s hot right now and is super fun to listen to.

The Australian artist is ahead of her game as the song has been available since 2012. But it’s been picking up steam with last October’s album release, Take Me When View this Post

3 delicious salads in Calgary

Salads are typically seen as summer fare or as a traditional side dish. But you haven’t truly experienced a salad until you’ve tried one of these delicious green plates. More than just lettuce, these salads are crafted from quality vegetables, tasty seasoning and drizzled with sumptuous dressing.  It’s time to make salads the main affair!

The Tallegio Friti salad at Bocce

From the folks behind Mercato comes Bocce, the newest member of the 4th Street block. While this new Mission fave is known for it’s Italian pizza and pasta, I truly fell in love with their Tallegio View this Post

Taylor Swift Remixed: Transit & Kirstyn Johnson

I have a love-hate relationship with Taylor Swift. I was a huge fan in her early days when she was still singing about “Tim McGraw”, but quickly fell out of love when her pompous air seemed to take over post-VMAs. I blamed Kanye West for boosting her undeserved fame (honestly, who would have remembered her if he had just let her finish her speech!) But as the years have passed, I have come back full circle to appreciate how well young Taylor has played the social game and make some pretty darn catchy music along the way.
