You’ve probably driven past this hidden gem of a You’ve probably driven past this hidden gem of a garden 🌸and never even realized it’s there. This is Reader Rock Garden, one of the most beautiful green spaces 🌺🍃 in Calgary. It’s right next to Macleod Trail near the Stampede. You can’t see it from the road so it’s easy to miss. I love coming here for my lunchtime walks because it’s so nice to find some respite in this little urban oasis tucked away in the inner city. BEAKERHEAD is celebrating 10 years of weird! There BEAKERHEAD is celebrating 10 years of weird! There will be tons of cool stuff happening all weekend long like BODY, an immersive nighttime installation. It’s making its North American debut and Calgarians are the first to get to see it! It’s created by U.K. group ‘Walk the Plank’ and takes participants through different parts of the human body including the brain, the heart, lungs and more. I loved the creative way it used art, science and technology to create such a cool way to learn, explore and think about our own biology and how it works. This @beakerhead activation is at Millenium Park behind the Mewata Armoury and you can find more at Contemporary Calgary and other locations as well. Here are some of my suggestions to enjoy a beverage or two: @vinroomyyc (featured in this video) has an amazing rooftop ☀️patio so get up there while it’s still open! They do happy hour all day Sunday which is where I love to go for a glass of 🍷sangria. @verandayyc has the most wide-ranging cocktail menu I have seen lately at very affordable prices. They got everything from beertails, kombucha coolers, and craft cocktails too. I really enjoyed the Garden Party cocktail 🍹 for its fruity burst of flavours. I am loving that many places now have non-alcoholic options 🍸on their menus so non-drinkers can partake as well. @thebarchouette has amazing options - their “zero a-peel” has all the makings of a quality craft cocktail just without the booze. I can’t believe I’ve lived here my whole life I can’t believe I’ve lived here my whole life and never made it out to the Hoodoos before! They’re only 90 minutes away from Calgary, not too far from Drumheller proper. It’s been on my to-do list forever, but sometimes I feel like it’s easy to overlook the stuff close to home for something more exotic like Hawaii or Japan (also on my to-do list lol). So I’m glad I finally got to see Alberta’s badlands in person. These three dishes do the perfect mix of crispy and potato-y (is that a word? 🤣). Make sure to check them out while they are still on the menu: 💛@nativetonguesyyc These crispy potatoes get smashed and are served with a garlic aioli, quest fresco and cilantro 💛 @thebarchouette Fry them and fry them some more and then fry them one more time just for good measure!
