Inside Calgary’s new Central Library
The new Calgary Public Library location will stun and inspire you

Welcome Gallery in New Central Library

Visitors will be greeted by this amazing view in the Welcome Gallery when they first enter the New Central Library.

Welcome to the new Central Library! This new icon in Calgary’s East Village area was four years in the making, but it is totally worth the wait when you finally see inside this newly reimagined library. In the digital age we now live in, it may seem like libraries no longer have a place in society. But the new Central Library will offer up so much more than books as it sets itself up to be a truly collaborative community View this Post

Why Calgarians need to know the Cadillac Ranch line dance

An important rite of passage for all new Calgarians is to take part in their very first Calgary Stampede (and survive the ensuing hangover).

When one of my friends first moved here to yyc, he was super excited to take in all the Stampede festivities. He gussied up in all the best Western gear to play the part right: the jeans, the boots, the bolo tie and of course, the cowboy hat. At his first Stampede party, he had fully embraced his inner rhinestone cowboy and really felt like View this Post

The lemurs have landed at the Calgary Zoo

Welcome to the Land of Lemurs at the Calgary Zoo.

While the pandas are all the rage at The Calgary Zoo, there is another black-and-white critter that you’ll love to visit.  The Land of Lemurs exhibit has brought these furry and adorable African animals together for Calgarians to learn and enjoy from. The lemurs were chosen as a way to educate the public and help conserve these very endangered species. The Calgary Zoo will also be working on lemur reforestation and repopulation projects in their native Madagascar.

Lemurs at play. Look for their tails!

Stampede Roundup and Oxford Stomp: Partying for a Good Cause

Stampede Roundup Journey 2

Journey rocks out at the Stampede Roundup.

It’s been a wonderful and exhausting 10 days of Stampede, but in between all the food, midway rides and line dances, Calgarians showed up en masse to celebrate and support a great charity cause. The annual Stampede Roundup and Oxford Stomp fundraisers put together some amazing outdoor concert experiences, with some western flair. Combined, the two events raised $400,000 for the Rotary Club of Calgary. What’s cool is that the funds raised will go towards enhancing the urban park experience in the city with the  Rotary/Mattamy Greenway Project. The initiative View this Post

Frida Kahlo in photos at the Glenbow Museum

The Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Glenbow Museum runs until May 21, 2018.

It isn’t often that you get the chance to peek into the private side of a cultural icon, but art lovers can rejoice with the new Glenbow Museum exhibit featuring Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo: Her Photos marks its Canadian debut here in Calgary with an intimate series of Kahlo’s personal photos. The private collection of photos stayed hidden for decades after the artist had passed, but finally was revealed to the public in 2007. With over 6,500 images on record, 241 images were curated by View this Post
