First came the freshly squeezed lemonade to quench Calgarians’ thirst. Then came the mini donut popsicle that was all the rage at Stampede. Now the local team behind the Family Squeezed and Family Freezed brands is ready with another delectable dessert craze: edible cookie dough. The addition of Cookie Dough YYC to Calgary’s sweets scene is both unique and welcome.

Owner and “head squeeze” Jennifer Andrews tells me that the idea for edible cookie dough came from her childhood. “Who doesn’t love cookie dough? It was the next obvious treat. We determine what our customers want and then elevate it [for] them,” says Jennifer. If you’ve ever taken to eating raw cookie dough, you know how yummy it can be, but have also heard of the health risks of doing so. Now you can safely eat Cookie Dough YYC’s concoctions created with heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs.

For $6, you can pick up at a very sizable six-ounce cup of cookie dough for your eating pleasure. The team is constantly adding and rotating in new flavours with current options like the Unicorn marshmallow butter and sugar cookie, brownie batter, chocolate chip and peanut butter as well as seasonal options like the mini egg for Easter. If you’re even so inclined, you can bake the cookie dough at 350 degrees F for eight minutes to make five delicious  cookies (seriously guys, it’s a lot of cookie dough you get!). If you’re like me, it may be too much cookie dough in one sitting, so you can also keep it in the fridge for up to three weeks in the fridge or even up to three months in the freezer. It’s the treat that will just keep on giving.

The reaction to the edible cookie dough has been super positive. “People are loving it and we are loving doing this. It’s so fun,” says Jennifer. The dough can be found at the Family Squeezed Lemonade Stand in CrossIron Mills, as well as the store’s food trucks including  the new “Dough to Go” vehicle.
