Four breads to try at The Loft Bakery

Fresh bread from The Loft Bakery
Who loves fresh bread as much as I do?

Who loves bread as much as I do? I’m a total fan of all things delicious and doughy. I like my bread soft  and chewy. I like it warm and fresh out of the oven. I like it crispy and toasted. I like my bread sandwiched into savoury eats and I like my bread covered in jams and marmalades for a sweet treat. I like bread any which way you can have it!

There are lots of places to get fresh baked goods around Calgary, but one of the newer options you may not have heard of is the bakery at The Loft. In the farmer’s market area of Granary Road, is a multi-level food concept of kitchen, bakery and lounge that makes up The Loft. The bakery does a mix of everything from croissants, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, and of course, freshly baked bread. The Loft Bakery does a changing variety of in-house baked breads including Sourdough, Pumpernickel, Onion Poppy Seed, Light Rye, Challah, Muesli Bread, Caraway & Rye, and many, many more. Here’s a look at just a few of the options that you should try:

Sourdough loaf

This traditional sourdough bread has the just the right mild sour taste to feed your tastebuds! The size and shape is perfect for turning into a bread bowl for spinach dip or soup.

Vegetable Foccacia

I’ve seen foccacia bread dusted with rosemary or tossed with some cheese but this vegetable foccacia from The Loft takes it to a whole new level! You’ll find this bread pre-loaded with tons of toppings including herbs, olives, bell pepper, feta, parmesan, zucchini and onion. I put this loaf into the oven for a quick toasting at 325 degrees F to warm it up and give it a little crunch. It’s almost like a pizza with a super thick bread base. My pizza cutter came in super handy for slicing up this focaccia.

Multigrain sourdough loaf

You’d think this sourdough would be pretty similar to the white flour version, but I have to say that I liked this multigrain version even more. It just had that little extra texture and flavour along with the sourdough tastiness. I toasted many a slice to eat with the CRMR Kitchen Bumbleberry Jam for breakfast. Yum yum!

Herb baguette crostinis

These little pre-toasted crostinis have been mixed with olive oil and an Italian dried herb mix. They’re perfect to use for party platters for some tomato and bocconcini slices, dips and hummus or just eating plain.

For those of you who can’t make it out to Granary Road to visit The Loft, you can also pick up these fresh-baked loaves at the Urban Butcher location in Mission every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Prices range from $3.50 – $7.50 for the different varieties of bread. Make your weekend more delicious with some fresh bread from The Loft.

#gifted: Big thanks to The Loft Bakery for gifting some of their delicious breads for me to try (a.k.a. overload on my daily carb intake).
