An Ode to the Calgary Stampede Mini Donuts

Deep fried mini donuts

I love these little deep fried delights known as the mini donut.

Best mini donuts in Calgary

Oh mini donuts, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

You are often imitated, but never duplicated. I ravenously covet the 10 days of the Calgary Stampede so I can make my way down to get my hands on your delicious scrumptiousness. As I wind my way through the Stampede grounds, I know not to get fooled by the other stands with their big buckets and other gimmicks. I only have eyes for “Those Little Donuts” as you stand out View this Post

Four breads to try at The Loft Bakery

Fresh bread from The Loft Bakery

Who loves fresh bread as much as I do?

Who loves bread as much as I do? I’m a total fan of all things delicious and doughy. I like my bread soft  and chewy. I like it warm and fresh out of the oven. I like it crispy and toasted. I like my bread sandwiched into savoury eats and I like my bread covered in jams and marmalades for a sweet treat. I like bread any which way you can have it!

There are lots of places to get fresh baked goods around Calgary, but one of the newer options View this Post

10 drinks to cozy up with at YYC Hot Chocolate Fest

The weather outside is frightful, but at least the hot chocolate beverages are delightful! February is YYC Hot Chocolate Fest month, the perfect time of year to enjoy a confectionary drink while winter is still in full swing. Restaurants around the city create a signature hot chocolate drink specifically for the festival with traditional, unique and hot chocolates with spirits involved! This isn’t your typical hot cocoa and peppermint Schnapps!

The nice bonus about YYC Hot Chocolate Fest is that you’ll be drinking to a good cause. The event is an annual fundraiser for Calgary Meals on Wheels to help View this Post

Donna Mac brings new neighborhood cuisine to the Beltline

Most of us have memories of going over to grandma’s house for dinner. It would have been an evening full of warmth, comfort, fresh ingredients and communal dishes between family and friends. The owners of the newly-opened Donna Mac look to resurrect what grandma used to do with their new neighborhood cuisine in the Beltline.

Inspired by what grows regionally and seasonally, Donna Mac rotates items regularly using as much of each whole ingredient as possible. This can be seen in how the items are listed on the menu with the focus on the main foodstuff like carrots, endive, duck View this Post

Two Penny in Victoria Park

Welcome to Two Penny in Victoria Park.

I find that downtown Calgary is home to so many restaurants of all types of cuisines from sushi to pizza to tacos and more. For some reason, Chinese food remains primarily entrenched within Chinatown while the rest of the downtown goes without. Two Penny in Victoria Parks hopes to change all that by offering a more contemporary Asian cuisine experience.

Inside you’ll find a beautiful decorated space (completed by the amazing Sarah Ward Interiors team) filled with comfortable seating and subtle Chinese décor. Jade green tones take over the room which is View this Post
